Keymaps for ReSharper

A few weeks ago, during an IM conversation with Ilya Ryzhenkov from JetBrains – I was challenged to swap from the ReSharper IntelliJ/Idea keyboard scheme that I’ve been using since ReSharper 2.5 and try the Visual Studio Scheme that Ilya himself designed.

I took the challenge, but found it very difficult to unlearn the 5 years worth of muscle memory. Another hurdle is that I don’t have a working printer at home, so my usual trick of printing out & blu-tacking the Keymap PDF to the bottom of my monitor was not an option!

Next came a moment of inspiration – wouldn’t it be great if you could have the information from keymap scheme available within Visual Studio. And then Keymaps for ReSharper was born.

Keymaps for ReSharper is a ReSharper plugin that creates a dockable tool window which contains listings of all the keyboard shortcuts for both the Visual Studio & IntelliJ/Idea schemes. It automatically detects which scheme you have selected. You can filter the shortcuts displayed via a combobox:

I’ve already received a few feature requests – so I also put in an auto-update feature – so you’ll be notified automatically when a new release is available. If you have any suggestions or comments – ping me on twitter @HowardvRooijen

At the same time as creating http://Keymaps.forReSharper.org – I also decided to give StyleCop for ReSharper some attention and also created http://StyleCop.forReSharper.org in the future there will be some new additions to the *.for.ReSharper family – so keep an eye on this blog for announcements!
